What
Is The Tile ? The decorated tile (also known as ini) is a coating material that its one surface is glazed and embroidered with coloured motives. The under-glaze technique is used for designing our tiles. It is believed that the art tile was created in Central Asia and spread to Anatolia and Europe later. The art tile is
placed in fine arts nowadays; Assyrians, Egyptians, Iranians and Central
Asia Turks used tiles as adorning materials on building and inscription.
In the time of Seljuks and the Ottoman Empire, in various settelement
centres, the manufacture of art tile was carried out. In Seljuk Empire,
the colours of turquoise, green, cobalt blue, brown and transparent
ones were seen widely. The seven colours as turquoise, blue, a pleasant
dark green, red, light dark-blue, white and sometimes black, were applied
under glaze in the Ottoman tiles of 16th century, this application is
a matchless development in the art of tile in the world. Ktahya is
the unique centre that the manufacture of art tile has been carrying
out since the Ottoman Empire Period.
